What is Iconize Me?
-An online portrait/caricature service. You send us a photo, we
draw you. It's pretty simple, and very fun.
How much does Iconize
Me! cost?
-It depends on the artist you select:
--$40/face for Paul Sahner
--$50/face for Shalimar
Luis
--$50/face for José Ramos
How do you know what
I look like?
-You provide DVG with either a URL to an image of yourself when
you order, or you attach your image to an email. Within a few hours
of your order we will contact you with all the information you
need. (There's no automation, we don't like it- every email you
get is sent directly from a human, hence a slight delay). If
you're feeling antsy you can send in the photo with a copy of your
PayPal confirmation before that- we'll figure it out. (Just be
sure to send the photo directly to the artist from whom you ordered).
What format does my
picture need to be in?
-JPEG is always nice, but we accept any other major file format. (GIF,
TIFF, PICT, PNG, BMP, PSD, etc)
How extensive of an illustration is included for the price?
-For the base price, we will draw one person from the chest up. You can think of the icon as a bust. If you want an icon with more than one subject, please contact the artist for a quote.
How big is the final
order?
-Usually around 1-2 megabytes per icon ordred.
What files will I
get in my order?
- (1) Mac OS X icon*, (1) Mac OS X ICNS file, (1) 128x128 GIF,
(1) 300 DPI 8.5" x 11" JPEG, (1) Vector-based PDF file.
*we deliver Macintosh icons by default, but if you use Windows,
just let us know and we'll get you the ICO files.
Can I get the original
Photoshop file? / What is PDF? Why?
-We don't work in Photoshop to create the portraits, so there is no
Photoshop file to send. All of our work is done as vector art in Illustrator,
which we save to a PDF for delivery. Working in Illustrator allows
us to be free from the boundaries of resolution. A vector file is purely
mathematical, so it can be scaled to any size without loss of quality.
The PDF file we send in your order retains all the qualities of our
original Illustrator file.
What type of payment
system is used for Iconize Me!?
-PayPal. All major credit cards as well as eChecks are accepted.
How do I know I'll like
the drawing?
-We can't guarantee you'll like anything. It's art, so it's all
in the eye of the beholder. However, over the years, we've had well
over a 90% satisfaction rate. Doing this consistently isn't easy-
ask those people who draw people at Six Flags- Gathering someone's
likeness from a single photo can be very difficult- but we seem
to pull it off!
How long does this all
take?
-Each icon is completed in around 30-90 minutes, depending on complexity,
artist, and weather. However, because of the number of orders we
get - thus creating a backorder - it will take a week or two for most
icons to be delivered. That IS subject to change (for the better or
worse).
What are the system
requirements for the icons?
-To view the large 128x128 icons you'll need Mac OS X- but they
will work under any version of the Mac OS. We also support Windows
XP, just let us know and we'll send the ICO files, too! The rest
of the files are JPEGs, PDFs and GIFs, which are all cross platform
standards.
What software do you
guys use?
-Adobe Illustrator and a little Photoshop. Icons are created with
IconFactory's fantastic IconBuilder Pro.
Couldn't I do this myself?
-Maybe you can. But that's not really the whole point. A lot
of people can do little portraits, however a lot of the fun
is within seeing how someone else interprets you...It can be
nerve-racking in some ways, but there's a lot of excitement
built-up. I still go to traditional caricature artists when
I see them around- it's all just for fun!
Can I use the icon for _______?
-Yes, we license all icons with Creative Commons. You are free to use the icon (incuding derivitive and commericla projects) however you like. For more information, see below:
Iconize Me! Icons by

What else can I do with
the portrait?
-I don't know! Use you're imagination. Blog? AIM? MySpace? FaceBook?
Forums? Address Book Card? Or, maybe go beyond the computer and
make a cake or
use
it as a logo.
